This project is located on the Campus of The University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa and is a landscaped Memorial Plaza. Its central focus is a striking piece of bronze artwork measuring five feet in diameter and eleven feet in height. This artwork serves as a tribute to the victims and families affected by the August 31, 2019 mass shooting in Midland/Odessa. The bronze cylinder is the heart of the memorial, radiating internal light that reflects quotes and reflections from the victims’ families onto the surrounding hardscape. This creates a meaningful and contemplative atmosphere for visitors. The Bright Star Memorial project is a collaborative effort involving the City of Odessa and Odessa Arts. The memorial is situated on approximately 8.6 acres of land and holds a significant place in commemorating the
tragic event while providing a space for reflection and remembrance.
