Dilly bars in hand, Moorhead residents and community leaders ushered in a new era for Moorhead at a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Community Center Library project, one of the first projects in a larger downtown redevelopment.
The $41.5 million project will bring a new combined community center and public library to downtown Moorhead in 2026. The two-story building will include meeting and community rooms, a center for entrepreneurship, an indoor playground, a walking track, a library, and administrative spaces for library staff. It will replace the current library, which was built in 1961.
Neely Benton, a Moorhead Library Board member, attended the event with her three children. She said her family has always loved the Moorhead library and the need for a new one reflects how the community is growing.
