McGough is delighted to announce the groundbreaking of the South Dakota Department of Health Workforce and Education Center in Pierre, SD. The project is a partnership with Puetz Design Build as the general contractors.
Groundbreaking for the facility, which took place on April 23, 2024, signifies a pivotal moment in the advancement of public health services in South Dakota. The new two-story state-of-the-art laboratory and administrative services and training building will stand adjacent to the existing public health laboratory, providing expanded space and cutting-edge capabilities.
With a total of 83,364 square feet, including 37,972 square feet of renovated space, and a substantial portion dedicated to laboratory testing (60,000 square feet), the South Dakota Department of Health Workforce and Education Center will serve as a hub for public health laboratory services throughout the state.

The ceremony, attended by distinguished guests including Governor Kristi Noem, Mayor Steve Harding, Secretary of Health Melissa Magstadt and South Dakota Public Health Lab Director Tim Southern emphasized the significance of this milestone for the state of South Dakota.
Designed by TSP + SmithGroup, the facility integrates modern aesthetics with practicality, ensuring it serves the needs of its users for years to come.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in late 2026.
